Debit cards at Verifone POS terminals

Please be advised that some members may have their credit or debit card declined when making purchases at some point of sale terminals. This issue is affecting multiple financial institutions, and is a result of an issue with the merchant's point of sale terminal, not the debit card itself. If you experience an issue with your card, you can:
* Pay through contactless transaction, splitting your transaction in two if necessary
* Enable Google Pay, Samsung Pay, or Apple Pay on your mobile phone.

Ms. Doris Martens

Ms. Doris Martens

Incumbent

Doris has served on the SCU Board of Directors since 2003. She is Chair of the Audit Committee and a member of the Personnel Committee. She has also chaired the Governance and Member Relations committees and served on the Investment and Nominating committees. Early in her career, Doris enjoyed serving members through various roles as an SCU employee. While raising their four sons, Doris and her late husband, Gary owned and operated a purebred dairy and beef farm in the Grunthal area. More recently, she has completed University Certificates in Financial Services, Accounting, and Administration. As a life-long learner, she earned the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, GCA) designation in 2015. Doris is currently employed as the Controller at E.G. Penner Building Centres in Steinbach.

Mr. Bruce Penner

Bruce is Executive Director and Ownership Partner of Momentum Healthware, a Winnipeg IT company that provides health software to governments nationally and internationally. He has founded and acquired several software companies and served as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer in private and public corporations. Bruce’s education includes an Honours Degree in Computer Science as well as ICD-Rotman Directors’ Education Program and a variety of leadership, strategy, and accounting courses. Bruce joined the SCU Board of Directors in 2017 and currently chairs the Strategic and Future State Committee as well as serving on the Executive. He also represents SCU on the Board of Credit Union Central of Manitoba. Bruce and his wife Kim currently reside in Steinbach. They are active within the Steinbach community, and are active investors in the Winnipeg business community.

Ms. Maria Reimer

Maria is a Partner at MLT Aikins LLP, one of Western Canada’s largest law firms. She practices in the areas of corporate and commercial law, with an emphasis on financial services and commercial real property. She has been recognized since 2019 by her peers in the publication, The Best Lawyers in Canada, in the field of Real Estate Law. Maria has served on the SCU Board since 2015 and is currently the First Vice-Chair of the Board, the Chair of the Governance Committee, and also serves on the Strategic and Future State Committee. She obtained her Certified Credit Union Director Designation at the CUES 2017 Governance Leadership Institute (Rotman School of Management). Maria has strong ties to the Steinbach community; her grandfather P.J. Reimer was one of the founding members of SCU and she is active in her family’s business, Reimer Agencies Ltd. In her spare time, Maria enjoys competing in hunter/jumper equestrian competitions and spending time outdoors at her acreage in the RM of Springfield with her husband, John.

Gary is a strategic thinker, skilled business leader with extensive Board experience. Over the course of his 40-year business career, Gary has gathered broad experience in strategic planning, mergers, acquisitions, strategic asset sales, investment management, and enterprise risk management. He has held senior management positions in a diverse group of industries including public accounting, agriculture, manufacturing, and insurance. Gary retired in 2019 after 11 years as the CFO of Wawanesa Mutual Insurance, one of the largest P&C insurance companies in Canada. Gary has worked in Steinbach, Winnipeg, and Sydney, Australia. Winnipeg has been his home since 1984 where he has resided with his wife and now three grown children. Gary is a committed community volunteer. In 1992, the Governor General of Canada recognized his significant contribution to compatriots, community and Canada; awarding him the Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada. In June 2020, Gary was elected to the Board of Red River Co-op.
