SCU experiences steady growth; announces $15 million cash bonus for second year in a row

STEINBACH, MB, March 18, 2026: At its Annual General Meeting, Steinbach Credit Union (SCU) reported another strong fiscal year for 2025. Board Chair, Maria Reimer, attributed the credit union’s success to its constant strength and commitment to understanding and meeting members’ needs. And, to share their success with their valued members, Reimer announced a $15 million cash Member Bonus for the second year in a row.

Reimer began the meeting with a message on the importance of community. “At the heart of every credit union is its community. That belief has guided SCU since its founding and continues to shape how we grow today.” In 2025, the Board of Directors contributed over $1 million to more than 37 organizations including the Southeast Event Centre, Habitat for Humanity, as well as Bethesda Foundation, Health Sciences Centre foundation, and St. Boniface Hospital Foundation, to name a few.

With deposits growing by 6.5% and their lending portfolio by 6.8%, CEO Curtis Wennberg says SCU understands their members have high expectations. “Looking ahead our focus is becoming the credit union that delivers the best overall value for our members,” he says, “That’s why our priorities include enhancing digital and in-branch experiences, strengthening cybersecurity and data protection, modernizing our facilities, prioritizing financial resilience and responsible growth, and ensuring we remain accessible for all members.”
Reimer echoes their success by the numbers. “I’m proud to share that, in a year when growth was slowing down across the industry, we welcomed 6,600 new members and our assets grew by 8.0%, growing by nearly one billion dollars to reach $11 billion in assets. These numbers represent our constant strength and commitment to understanding and meeting our members’ needs.”

Wennberg says SCU will continue focusing on member needs in 2026, including implementing an exciting new digital banking offering. “We continue to invest in our digital transformation, starting with new Member Contact Centre technology, changes to our partners for our core banking system, and perhaps most exciting for our members, a new digital banking platform later this year.”

Reimer was pleased to deliver the good news that SCU members will once again receive a patronage bonus. The 100% cash bonus will be shared with members who hold qualifying deposit and lending accounts. The breakdown of this allocation will be 60% to deposit holders and 40% to credit holders. More details on the Member Bonus are available at www.scu.mb.ca/MyBonus

This year the membership re-elected board member Jeremy Hildebrand and elected Tannis Wiebe.

The Board of Directors elected Maria Reimer as Board Chair, Bruce Penner as First Vice-Chair, and Chris Goertzen as Second Vice-Chair.
